Formed through the consolidation of the Ombudsman for Financial Services (OFS) and the Securities Industry Dispute Resolution Center (SIDREC), FMOS operates as a unified, one-stop dispute resolution body, offering consumers a clear and streamlined path for redress.\u00a0<\/p><p>FMOS bridges the gap between everyday Malaysians and financial institutions and capital markets intermediaries, levelling the playing field through:<\/p><ul type=\"disc\"><li><p><strong>Accessibility:<\/strong>\u00a0No legal representation is required.<\/p><\/li><li><p><strong>Affordability:<\/strong>\u00a0Free for consumers and investors.<\/p><\/li><li><p><strong>Speed:<\/strong>\u00a0ADR is structured to ensure the timely resolution of disputes, offering a faster alternative to protracted litigation.\u00a0<\/p><\/li><li><p><strong>Fairness &amp; Impartiality:<\/strong>\u00a0The outcome reflects fairness, reasonableness, and adherence to applicable law and industry practices.\u00a0<\/p><\/li><\/ul><p><strong>Your Options for Redress<\/strong><\/p><p>FMOS handles disputes involving direct financial losses up to\u00a0<strong>RM250,000<\/strong>. This includes:<\/p><ul type=\"disc\"><li><p><strong>Banking\/Islamic Banking:<\/strong>\u00a0Loans, credit\/debit cards, internet\/mobile banking, and e-wallets related complaints<\/p><\/li><li><p><strong>Insurance\/ Takaful:<\/strong>\u00a0Life, medical, motor, and travel claims related complaints<\/p><\/li><li><p><strong>Capital Markets:<\/strong>\u00a0Unit trusts, shares, warrants and private retirement schemes, and fund management related complaints<\/p><\/li><\/ul><p><strong>How the FMOS Dispute Resolution Works<\/strong><\/p><p>When facing a dispute, the FMOS redress process is a clear, two-stage redressal process comprising\u00a0<strong>Case Management<\/strong>\u00a0followed by\u00a0<strong>Adjudication.<\/strong><\/p><p><strong>STEP 1: The FMOS Referral<\/strong><\/p><p>You must first lodge a formal complaint with the financial institution. If you are dissatisfied with their Decision, you have\u00a0<strong>6 months<\/strong>\u00a0to refer the case to FMOS.<\/p><p><strong>STEP 2: Complaint Assessment\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p><p>The complaint will be assessed to determine whether it falls within FMOS\u2019s jurisdiction. If eligible, the complaint will be formally registered.<\/p><p><strong>STEP 3: Case Management\u00a0<\/strong><\/p><p>The Case Manager will investigate the matter and facilitate negotiations between the disputing parties with a view to reaching a mutually acceptable settlement. Failing which, a recommendation will be issued. Acceptance of the recommendation by both parties will conclude the dispute.<\/p><p><strong>STEP 4: Adjudication<\/strong><\/p><p>If you do not accept the Case Manager\u2019s recommendation, you may refer the matter for adjudication within 30 days from the date of the written recommendation. During adjudication, an Ombudsman will independently review the case and issue a final decision. If you accept the decision, it will be binding on the financial institution.\u00a0<\/p><p>If you do not accept it, the adjudication process ends, and you remain free to pursue other available avenues.<\/p><p><em><strong>\u201cWe don\u2019t take sides. We weigh the facts, guided by the law, and find the fair way forward.\u2019\u2019<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>A Smarter Way Forward<\/strong><\/p><p>A final rejection from your service provider is not the end.
